Personality: Self serviant, She-Spawn watches out for herself alone. If you are lucky enough to be one of the people she likes, she may protect you, but the odds are slim. She tends to be angry toward anyone that enters her territory and threatens those that she protects. Thugs and mobsters tend to rub her the wrong way. She enjoys the act of inflicting pain and death, so much that she laughs as she tears enemies apart and guns them down.

Biography: Alaina Simmons was born in Detroit, Michigan as the second of three children (Marc, Alaina, and Richard) to Esther and Bernard Simmons. Simmons joined the United States Secret Service, which led to her transfer to the Central Intelligence Agency. In the CIA, Simmons was recruited by Director Jason Wynn into a special division known as the U.S. Security Group, a task force with jurisdiction in all domestic and foreign situations.

Simmons was murdered during a mission in Botswana for the USSG's Operation Knightstrike by best friend and fellow mercenary Bruce Stinson (also known as Chapel), at the order of Director Wynn. Afterwards, Simmons is sent to hell because of her life as an assassin. Making a deal with a devil, Simmons agrees to become a Hellspawn and serve Malebolgia if she is allowed to see her husband one last time.

Malebolgia returns Simmons to the world, but with little memory, a badly burned and disfigured body, and magical powers. She is also assigned a watch dog, known as Clown. Simmons slowly realizes that five years have passed. When she decides to visit Wanda for her "one final visit", she shapeshifts her body, but discovers her transformation ability cannot give her her former appearance. She discovers that her husband, Doug Blake, has since married her best friend, Tina Fitzgerald, and the two have a daughter, Cyan. Her life over, Simmons has two choices before her: follow Malebolgia, or renounce the devil.

Now known as She-Spawn, Alaina's first few adventures are antihero in nature: she takes down street gangs and organized crime (including their enforcer, Overtkill), and she kills a child molester/murderer named Billy Kincaid.
